Residency status: LTR
Eyes: Brown
He still loves his suits and is never without them whilst out the
office. Undercover, he will wear anything he needs to to fit in and avoid
detection. Outside the office he is still a jeans, vest and casual sort of
guy. His lion is an unusual dusty red colour not found in nature. It is of
the Asiatic sub species, and is bigger than a normal lion, being both broader
and longer. His mane is dark red and shimmers like fire when it moves. He has
a paw print mark on his left shoulder which is slightly darker red to his
fur. Personality: Charlie still seems
serious and cold to the vast majority but now he is a member of the pride and
is working with his partner in crime Nixie, he is a little more laid back.
When doing business, he is still stern, professional and the guy who would
not stand to be messed with. Many people still think he is a bouncer and some
still shy away from him. But to the pride and Nixie, he is a bundle of fun, laughing, joking
and having a good time when not on duty. His protective nature has grown
since with the pride and he’s let himself be more open to people. His sense
of humour is still dry and he misses having Tams around, though is in regular
contact with him. He enjoys working with Nixie and has developed a fond
liking of her (in a purely platonic way). History:
Charlie had a rather normal childhood, considering on how his life would turn
out. His parents were both business people, his mum working on the stock
exchange and his dad running his own companies, which included an IT outfit
and a garage. They were pretty well off and because of this, and the fact he
was their only child, he was spoilt rotten. He got a very good education at
New Orlean’s top school, acing most subjects and particularly excelling in
Maths; he always had had a good head for numbers since he was young, thanks
to her mother. The only subject he struggled with was PE and sports were his
least favourite activity due to the fact he couldn’t run very well. At high school, he was a slim teen and soon became envious of
the sporty guys who the girls seemed to be interested in. He was seen as a
bit of a nerd, with his head in numbers and books, so to dispel the image, he
started to go to the gym and beef up, knowing he’d never be able to play
basketball and football like his peers but wanting to look the part
nonetheless. The gym gave him a new bout of confidence and he came out of
school a happy young man, pleased with his grades, his looks and his future
prospects. He’d applied to go into the police force just before he left and
had been accepted for the cadets. It was a dream come true for him and he
quickly excelled, being brought into the main force a few years later. It was one night while out on patrol when things change
dramatically for him. He was doing his beat when he witnessed a break in at a
jewelers and gave chase to the young man. He followed him through the streets
and down an alleyway, not realizing it was a trap until it was too late. The
robber had got an accomplice with him who came up behind Charlie and smacked
him on the head with a metal bar, splitting his head open. As Charlie fell to
the ground, the robber dropped the jewels and started to panic, feeling the
throbbing sensation inside of him as he started to shift. His friend,
panicking, fled, leaving Charlie to fend for his life as the now shifted were
lion attacked him. A couple walking past heard the commotion and came to
Charlie’s aid. By then the werelion had fled, leaving Charlie ripped open.
They rang for help and he was taken to hospital. He barely survived, waking
up a month later, all stitched up and with no memory of what had happened. The robber was never caught. Charlie went on leave for a few
months, then decided to leave the forces, ashamed of what he had become and
not telling his colleagues the real reason for him leaving; they just thought
he was so traumatized over the incident that nearly killed him. Which was
true but only half of it. He was also struggling to cope with the shifting
and the effect of the lycanthropy and knew he needed to seek help. He told his parents he needed to go away for a while, that
being in New Orleans wasn’t doing him any good. They said their tearful
goodbyes and Charlie moved away to Dallas, where he’d had an interview for
the local pride and been accepted by their Rex. At first he struggled to adapt to this new way of life. He had
always been disciplined in the police forces, never question his superiors
and done as he was told, but he started to question some of the ways the
lions carried out things. This inevitably got him into trouble. His mentor, a
white lion called by the nickname ‘Merlin’, tried his best to explain the
laws and the way of the pride but it was just something he couldn’t get his
head round at first. Eventually he would grow used to the ways and live by
them quite happily. It was clear to Merlin from the start that Charlie had
potential as a were and it turned out he did. He stayed with the pride for
nearly ten years, working his way up the ranks and eventually becoming the
Amicus of the pride (second in command). The pride had had a relatively quiet
few years and this gave them chance to become a strong unit. Throughout the
years, Charlie found he had developed a number of powers. One was he could
shift from one form to another smoothly, causing envious but admirable looks
from the other members. Another was that he could pass for human; for many
years he worked alongside humans first as a security guard at a local
shopping centre then as bouncer and bodyguard for the owner of a local
nightclub, and none of the sensitives had known what he was. His other power
was that he could heal through touch, which he found when one day Merlin came
back gravely injured from a hunt and Charlie healed him, willing his friend
to stay alive. Shortly afterwards, the pride’s territory was invaded by
another pride and though they were able to drive them away, many died,
including Merlin and the Rex of the pride. Charlie as second in command
should have taken charge but he was so grief stricken by Merlin and the Rex’s
deaths, that he stepped down and went back to New Orleans, leaving the pride hurt
and confused. The third in command eventually took charge and stabilized the
group again. Charlie has not seen or had contact with any of them ever since.
He lay low for a while, living on the suburbs of the town he
was born, in an area he’d never been in before and no one knew him. He took a
job on as a security guard for a car park and it was while reading the paper
one day that he saw the advertisement for Preternatural Law Reinforcement
Officers. Phoning the number straight away, days later he resigned from his
job and took on the role as a PLRO, being teamed up with Officer Tams and
feeling like he was back where he belonged. In uniform on the streets, though
this time the uniform was a suit and he was hunting out his own kind. He knew
Merlin wouldn’t have approved but he was catching law breakers and to him
that could only be a good thing. The last four years have brought an abundance of drama the
alpha lion’s way. First the PR law saw Dewberry unable to help his fellow
lions and the citizens of NO when the PR law forbid its agents to participate
and instead sent them on training courses and paper chasing exercises. Being
deeply angered about this, Dewberry sort to find information to help expose
the law and help bring an end to it. With Nixie, he found out Drew was still
in detainment and later leaked the new to Andy and Lacey that Drew had been
going up for trial but had committed suicide. However, in 2007, Dewberry got the feeling that there was another leak
in the PRO other than Andy but was unable to trace it. This unnerved him
greatly but he concentrated on his duties. However it wasn’t long after
that Dewberry decided to leave the force and left Tams with another partner.
He called Nixie to tell her he was leaving for a while but would be in touch.
Over the next year, he stayed away from New Orleans but kept an eye on
events. It was during his time he decided to set up his own private detective
agency. He was missing his time on the beat and though the PRO work had taken
a lot out of him, he still wanted to help people. So after a few months of
spying on cheating spouses and chasing rogues out of areas, he came on his
first big break. There was an incident where two leaders were arguing over
territory and Dewberry was the one who sorted them out. Proud of his
achievement, he then sort to do more cases in a similar vein. News then came to him that the lycanthrope murderer had not been
caught. Knowing how vital it was to the community that they were brought to
justice, Dewberry finally told Nixie about his new firm, asking her if she
wanted to work with him. When she said yes, he made her also partner in the
firm and together they helped to solve the case, thanks to evidence they
found at the scene of a werehawks death. Dewberry was away working on another rogue case when the riot happened
in 2008. In early 2009, he returned to New Orleans, got his driving license
back and set up a base for him and Nixie to work from. The pair have now
solved thirty cases and are on their way to solving more. He also has regular contact with the pride though isn’t closely
associated with them as he fears it might interfere with some of his
undercover work. Strengths: Dewberry is so good at passing for human, only other
lions of alpha strength and potential can spot him. Other alphas now find it
hard to detect anything is different about him at all. He can shift fluidly
between forms and also has a define half-were half human-form. He can heal by
touch and more than ever has potential for being Rex. He is proficient with
fire arms and has just started taking karate lessons. Weaknesses: He
can still only move at human speed and will never get any faster. Silver causes
his skin to blister and he winces internally at even the sight of anything
silver. Even though betas can’t really sense what he is, alpha lions know
straight away he is one of them. He still has no desire to lead, despite his
power so he is unlikely to become Rex at any point in time. Quirks: He
loves anything with Mar Bars in and regularly has one after the gym. He is
addicted to energy drinks, preferring ones with flavouring over just caffeine
taste and likes his tipple, particularly brandy and gin. He smokes when he is
stressed and will flex his hands when he is angry, which is rare but does
happen |
